The benefits of membership are manifold. Three of the most important are the Eolas Teaching Program, personalized mentors, and the online library.

Eolas-The Teaching Program
The name of the teaching program is Eolas, which means “knowledge” in Irish. The Order’s teaching program is a combination self-study and mentored training. The program is set up to teach Our Druidry and guide the student along the path of self-improvement. There are nine “grades” or levels of knowledge within the Order. Each grade has a set curriculum that guides the new member through the lore of the Order and Irish Druidry. The curriculum is contained in the ODU training manuals. Each grade has a training manual that contains lectures, exercises and assignments. The manuals are designed to guide the member along the path toward the attainment of the knowledge needed to gain mastery of the curriculum for each grade. The lessons are self-paced allowing members to work at their own speed, keeping in mind that most of the grades have time requirements that must be fulfilled and knowledge that must be mastered before you can progress to the next.

Some of the topics covered by the Eolas Teaching Program follow:

  • Irish Myth, Legend and Folk Lore
  • Brehon Law-Overview of ancient Irish Law
  • Irish History
  • Seership, Divination and Augury
  • Ogham
  • Poetry-Modern and Ancient Irish Forms
  • Draiocht-Druid Magickal Theory and Technique
  • Ritual-ODU Ritual Theory and Technique
  • Irish Druid Cosmology-Gods, Goddesses and ancient Irish worldview

In addition to these topics there are lessons meant to aid the member with self-improvement and others designed to help the member understand the world in which we live. The ancient Druids were most assuredly “jacks of all trades” and probably masters of many of them, our goal as modern Druids should not be less. Mastery of the self, is the first step and is important in any “magickal tradition” because through mastery of the self comes the ability to master other arts, skills and knowledge. This is only a small sampling of the topics covered in our learning program there is much more.

Mentors
We provide a mentor to every member, though it is up to the member to decide to what extent he or she will utilize the mentoring program. The role of the mentor is to answer questions, act as a resource and assist the member with curriculum related problems. The mentors also review homework assignments and administer the tests required for advancement through the grades.

Online Members Library
Our online library is an ever-growing collection of myths, stories, essays and other resources for ODU members. The library contains many texts that will aid the members in their studies and personal growth.
