The Ord Draiochta Na Uisnech had its birth many years ago in a dream of sorts. Several friends gathered together one evening to discuss Druidry and related topics, as the natural flow of conversation progressed the topic of conversation changed to the fact that there were no Druid Groves in our hometown, so we decided to form one. We discussed how we could best accomplish our goal, should we join one of the many Druid Orders or go it alone? We considered the merits and drawbacks of all possible scenarios, by the end of that evenings study session we had resolved to form an independent grove. After a couple of years, some of us recognized that we had grown into much more than just an independent grove. We had shared our Druidry with others and found many like us who wanted or needed a sense of belonging, something that tied them to the path and let them know that they were not alone; the ODU was born of this need.

We have endeavored to expand our web presence, to reach out to other seekers and other Druids. We have developed a training program to teach those interested in Druidry our unique and beautiful understanding of the path.

In mid 2001 we changed our name from the Independent Order of American Druids to Ord Draiochta Na Uisnech because we wanted something that more accurately reflected our path and our identity. Since then we have seen slow steady growth, not just in physical size (which is a secondary concern to us) but growth in the spiritual aspects of the path. As this order continues to grow we will always seek to maintain a balance between the spiritual, mental and physical. The desire to offer dedicated seekers an alternative approach to the Irish mysteries has not waned since our humble beginnings so many years ago.
